Father’s Day is just around the corner. Instead of purchasing the traditional gift like another tie or power tool, why not do something different for the man in your life this year? Gift your dad, granddad, uncle or neighbor a day experiencing DC. Residing at Valo puts you close to everything great the city has to offer.

Start the day by heading down to the water and taking a stroll along Southwest Waterfront Park, just half a mile away from Valo Apartments. The park houses rows of willow trees, winding paved paths, a children’s play area, bocce courts, and views of East Potomac Park and the Washington Channel. It’s a perfect, low-key way to begin the day.

For brunch, consider making a reservation for an upscale meal at Del Mar de Fabio Trabocchu, a beautiful Spanish villa-like setting with waterfront views. The restaurant is just a 13-minute walk away from Valo apartments and offers bright and savory flavors of the Mediterranean coast of Spain.

After brunch, head to the south end of the city and put some history into the day. Mount Vernon, George Washington’s vast estate, offers a “Father of Our Country!” event during Father’s Day weekend. Listen as Washington discusses his role as husband, stepfather, and Father of Our Country in the program “Father to the First Family.” At George Washington’s Distillery & Gristmill, you can watch a demonstration of the historic process of whiskey-making in this reconstructed 18th-century distillery. See costumed distillers operating copper stills, stirring mash tubs, and managing the boiler as they demonstrate 18th-century distilling.

Another great after-brunch option is to round up the whole family to enjoy a 360° panoramic view of the city’s most majestic monuments, famous landmarks and natural beauty from 400 feet in the sky at The View of DC. This 12,000-square-foot space has floor-to-ceiling windows that allow you to get a new perspective of the nation’s capital. This iconic DC experience is only a 13-minute drive from Valo across the Arland D. Williams, Jr. Memorial Bridge. It’s a great way to enjoy a relaxing afternoon spending quality time with your loved ones.

Is the father figure in your life a baseball fan? Why not take him out to the ball game and see the Arizona Diamondbacks vs Washington Nationals at Nationals Park. This MLB stadium is only a 10-minute walk from Valo Apartments. The game starts at 1:35 on Father’s Day, making for perfect timing after a delicious brunch.

If you just want to get away from it all and spend a quiet day of reflection for Father’s Day, Patuxent Research Refuge is worth the 40-minute drive away from Valo. It’s a 12,800+ acre preserve filled with hiking trails and plentiful opportunities to observe wildlife.

No matter how you decide to spend Father’s Day with the father figure in your life, residing at Valo puts you close to every option imaginable. We hope you enjoy the day taking in some amazing experiences DC has to offer with someone special by your side.
