Springtime is arguably the best season to explore DC. The sun is out, the cherry blossoms are blooming and the city has come to life from a long winter. With the great weather comes new opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Valo’s prime location gives you easy access to any part of the city. Luckily for our residents, there’s plenty to do within walking distance from our community. We encourage you to take advantage of some of the great outdoor opportunities DC has to offer this season with our recommended list of must-trys and go-tos.

Farmers MarketSW

Farmers MarketSW has returned for the Spring season. Open every Saturday from April 13th – November 2nd from 9am – 1pm, this seasonal market is directly across from Waterfront Metro Station, just down the street from Valo. At only a 4-minute walk away, this market gives you a weekly opportunity to purchase healthy and seasonal food options, curated for the Southwest DC community. Discover unique homemade items, free live music, community programming and fun games on the corner of 4th and M St SW throughout Farmers MarketSW’s open season.

Tidal Basin Paddle Boats

It’s the best time of year to be on the water. A mile and a half away from Valo, the Tidal Basin offers plenty of activities to take advantage of. One of the best ways to enjoy the warm weather is to cruise on the Tidal Basin Paddle Boats. They’ve been a popular activity for DC residents and tourists since the late 1930s, and for good reason. Today, the boats provide visitors with unique views of the Thomas Jefferson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Martin Luther King Jr. memorials. With the option of a two or four person boat, you can gather a few friends to soak up some rays and make monumental memories on the water. Thousands of blooming cherry blossom trees currently surround the basin, which is truly a sight to see when you can catch them in full bloom .

East Potomac Golf Course

The East Potomac Golf Course is an expansive golf course conveniently located across the Washington Channel on Hains Point Island, about an 8-minute drive away from Valo. The course is home to the nation’s first cherry blossoms, and seeing the blooms on the course this time of year is a truly magical experience.

East Potomac contains a 9-hole course and an 18-hole course, along with a family course, a driving range and practice holes. There’s even a FootGolf course that combines soccer and golf into one activity. The best part? You can chow down before or after a day on the greens at the Potomac Grill, where you can enjoy breakfast classics or mouth-watering burgers.

These are just a few of the many things happening around Valo apartments during the start of the Spring season. However, don’t just take our word for it, explore our radiant neighborhood in the heart of DC for yourself. If you like what you see, stop by our front office for a tour. Our brand new studio 1- and 2-bedroom apartment homes are waiting to be explored as well.
